If you are serious about ticking the Kilimanjaro trek on your bucket list then there can be no half measures. Everything has to be planned to the last detail and then executed as and when the moment arrives. Part of your planning will entail preparing a packing checklist to assist the packing requirements. Make sure you tick all the items mentioned in the list. This list is not exhaustive but if you have all the items mentioned in the list then you sure would be doing yourself a world of good

CLOTHING

  • 1 Short Sleeve Shirt, moisture-wicking fabric
  • 2 Long Sleeve Shirts, moisture-wicking fabric
  • 2 Hiking Pants
  • 1 Fleece Pants
  • 1 Rain Pants, side zip recommended
  • 3 Underwear, moisture-wicking fabric
  • 1 Long Underwear, moisture-wicking fabric
  • 2 Sports Bra (women)

HEADWEAR

  • 1 Wide Brimmed Hat or Cap
  • 1 Warm Hat or Beanie
  • 1 Balaclava or Buff

 

HANDWEAR

  • 1 Gloves, warm, waterproof

 

FOOTWEAR

  • Water resistant semi-stiff hiking boots – mid-weight boots work great
  •  Sneakers, running shoes, etc. for overnight camps
  • Socks – several pairs for the climb
  • Liner socks – to keep your feet dry and limit the risk of blisters

  • Duffel bag – Large enough for all climbing gear and clothing. To be carried by the porters. An extra bag to be left at the hotel with extra gear

First Aid kit

Diamox, Antibiotics for gastrointestinal infections, anti-malaria, painkillers and your regular medications water purification drops, band-aids, antibiotic creams

You will need a passport that is valid at least six months beyond your dates of travel with an entry or re-entry visa, duly endorsed. A comprehensive travel and health insurance is a must to cover your risks.
