Rongai Route Trackers
The trek on Rongai route generally starts at NaleMoru village at an altitude of 1950 m. The trail on the first day ends at First Caves camp (2600m) which will be your base for the day. Here you can find toilet facilities but there are no hut accommodations available. On the next day your trail you will head towards Kibo taking the south-eastern path to Kikelwa Cave at 3600 meters which will be the base for overnight. Next day your ascent continues towards barren alpine zone to Mawenzi Tarn camp (4300m) where it is called for the day. The trail continues on eastern trails of Kibo continues and you can see the exemplary twin peaks of Kibo and Maweni along the route before you reach Kibo hut at 4700m which will be your last camp base before your summit night. For summit you have to again start your trek around 12 midnight from Kibo hut to Hans Meyer Cave (5,150 m), from where you have to trek more for an hour to reach your pre-summit goal which is “Gilman Point” from where you are just an hour and a half away from your goal, “Uhuru Peak”. After you bask in your feat you will descent towards the Horombo hut via the Marangu route where you will spend your night. You will have hut accommodation at Horombo Hut. The next day passing the Mandara Hut you will reach the Marangu Gate, your final destination where you will get your summit certificates.
